Rehabilitation Works: Timbers Distribution for Cyclone Hit Areas

Myanma Timber Enterprise is distributing timbers that are needed for the rehabilitation works in Mocha cyclonic storm hit areas of Rakhine state.

All the lumbers obtained from across the country are being transported to Sittwe via land and water routes and from there, are being distributed to other townships. General Manager U Win Kyaw from Local Marketing and Milling Department of Myanma Timber Enterprise said the status of timber distribution.

General Manager, Local Marketing and Milling Department, Win Kyaw said “Including Sittwe, we are distributing timbers to the townships of Rathedaung, Minbya, Mrauk-U, Kyautaw, Maungdaw, Buthidaung, Pauktaw and Ponnagyun. A total of 1,590 tons of timbers was able to distribute till 18th of June.”

In order to mill the timbers and distribute them, 10 mobile sawmills were built in Sittwe township in three different places and are started to run on 6th of June. The timber milling process is being operated with 188 staff members under Myanma Timber Enterprise acrosss the country.

U Win Kyaw said that besides timbers, Myanma Timber Enterprise is planning to distribute house pillars from forest thinning also for cyclone hit villages.

General Manager, Local Marketing and Milling Department, Win Kyaw said “Readymade lumbers are being distributed carrying with the ships, and we are going to carry and distribute house pillars from forest thinning in order to use in the villages and the needy areas.”

At present, 20 tons each of lumbers a day is being obtained from 10 mobile sawmills and producing the sizes of 4 by 2 and 3 by 2 feet, it’s reported.
