






Chairman of National Disaster Management Committee Vice Chairman of the State Administration Council Deputy Prime Minister Vice Senior General Soe Win, SAC member Dr Aung Kyaw Min, Union Ministers, senior military officers, deputy ministers and officials arrived at Sittway Airport on Wednesday.
From there, the Vice Senior General and party visited Kaladan Multimodal Port in Sittway and inspected arrival of cargo ships, transportation of relief items and rehabilitation materials for cyclone affected people by rescue teams and gave necessary instructions. On arrival at Sittway University, rector of the University and officials reported renovation of convocation hall damaged by cyclone and opening of courses to the Deputy Prime Minister.
In response to the reports, the Vice Senior General called for completion of construction tasks within one month and renovation tasks to be carried in line with characteristic of the university. The Vice Senior General then gave encouragements to students and viewed around work progress of rescue teams in the University compound. He then looked into repairing of 12,900 ft long road section from Sittway strand road (Shukhintha), Post office Junction to Sittway hotel.
In the briefing hall, Union Minister for Construction U Myo Thant reported on construction of road section on which the Vice Senior General instructed the needs. The Vice Senior General and party then proceeded to 500-bed Sittway General Hospital and heard reports of officials on damages of patient wards and staff housings, nursery and midwifery training school and extended building of traditional medicine hospital and fulfilled the needs.
The Vice Senior General and party then paid homage to Done Paik Sayadaw in Rathaedaung Township who is being hospitalized and asked about health condition. The Vice Senior General then comforted locals who are receiving medical treatments at the hospital and provided food stuff and looked into renal medical ward.
After that, the Vice Senior General visited No.1 basic education high school in Sittway and gave encouragements to the students. Later, the Vice Senior General attended a ceremony to honour units, departmental staff and volunteer organizations who took part in clearing damages and debris by Mocha cyclone at the Sasana beikman in the compound of Lawkananda Pagoda.
Speaking on the occasion, the Vice Senior General said that he acknowledged the efforts of members of Myanmar Police Force, Myanmar Red Cross Society, Fire Brigade members and volunteer organizations who took part relentlessly in the rescue works. He said the cyclone claimed 148 people and about 522 billion kyats losses of properties.
Due to the systematic implementation by forming organization, the rehabilitation measures can be able to carry out. Despite the estimation of huge losses by the international community including ASEAN and neighbouring countries, preparations have been made with unity and cooperation for least damages as well as rapid measures for rehabilitation.
He expressed thanks to all concerned organizations and people for their contribution in the relief and rehabilitation tasks. The Vice Senior General and member of State Administration Council Dr Aung Kyaw Min later presented honorary awards to the members of battalion, departmental personnel and charity organizations who took part in clearing works of debris left by Cyclone Mocha.
The Vice Senior General later visited Nanda Rama Pariyathi Sarthintaik in Magyi Myaing Ward and donated offertories to the Presiding Sayadaw. They later proceeded to Maungtaw and Buthitaung and inspected the rehabilitation measures. They also met with the departmental personnel, relief teams and charity organizations at the District and Township General Administration Offices in separate occasions.
During the meeting, the Senior Military Officers who are assigned for the rehabilitation tasks reported on the work implementations, and the Vice Senior General fulfilled the needs. He also explained the implementation of Disaster Management Center _ DMC for rehabilitation works, prioritized works for respective sectors, assistance being made for agriculture, education and communication sectors as well as the stockpiling of 10,000 tons of reserved rice for the convenience of the grassroot people.
He urged all to keep on maintaining the fine tradition of unity and cooperation in the time of emergency. They then presented foodstuff for the departmental personnel, relief teams and charity organizations.
The Vice Senior General ad party also visited the monasteries in Maungtaw and Buthitaung and donated offertories to the Sayadaws and members of the Sangha. They then went to the People’s Hospitals and inspected the renovation works of damaged building. They also presented foodstuff and cash assistance to the patients.
The Vice Senior General later met with the members of Border Guard Troops and families as well as the military officers, Tatmadawmen and families of the local stations in Maungtaw and Buthitaung, and heard their reports. The Vice Senior General also presented foodstuff and honorary cash
