Rehabilitation Activities: Efforts for electrification in Rakhine State

With the aims to boost electric power generation, which is the basic need of the public, the Ministry of Electric Power is undertaking the special emphasis on repairing and rebuilding tasks, as well as electric power distribution as quick as possible to the Sittwe, Rathaedaung, and other areas of Rakhine State (North) which suffered the most damage and loss due to the cyclonic storm (MOCHAon the 14th of May.

With the guidance of the Ministry of Electric Power, a total of 420 expert personnel from the Department of Power Transmission and System Control (DPTSC) have been sent to Sittwe, Mrauk-U and Ponnakyun townships for rebuilding the power grids.

Also, reconstruction works are underway in Sittwe with a team comprising of 600 expert staff members from the DPTSC of Shan State(North) and (South), Nay Pyi Taw, Yangon, Mandalay, Magwe and Ayeyawaddy regions. Efforts are being made for the electric power restoration in the entire northern part of Rakhine State at the end of May, it’s learnt.
