








Seminar on Making Tourism More Sustainable in Cultural Heritage Destinations in the Post Pandemic was held at Shwe Nan Daw Hotel in Bagan on 23rd of August.
Union Minister for Hotels and Tourism Dr Thet Thet Khine attended the opening ceremony of the seminar which was conducted by Mekong-Lancang Cooperative Special Fund -2023. In her opening speech, the Union Minister said Myanmar had achieved 3 projects under the Mekong-Lancang Cooperative Special Fund for development of Tourism sector.
She added that the seminar aims to promote cooperation in preserving culture and world heritage places between Mekong-Lancang countries, to coordinate the experiences of the member countries in tackling the challenges for sustainable development of the heritage places, as well as to draft sustainable tourism policy and projects, and to share good practices and strategies on tourist destination management, tourist management, exploring strategic market, and human resources management.
The Union Minister urged all to make cooperative efforts in drafting strategies and plans for sustainable tourism industry in Mekong-Lancang countries. Next, Chinese Ambassador to Myanmar Ms. Ma Jia delivered words of honor and representative from Mekong-Lancang Coordination Unit (Myanmar) gave a speech.
During the seminar, experts from tourism and cultural heritage preservation from Mekong-Lancang countries and attendees discussed sustainable measures for cultural heritage destinations, sharing good practices and promoting cultural heritage destinations. On separate occasion, Union Minister Dr Thet Thet Khaing received Chinese Ambassador to Myanmar Ms. Ma Jia and cordially discussed matters on promoting paukpaw relations, tourism promotion, conducting Familiarization Trip – FAM Trip, and implementing Sister Cities between Mekong-Lancang countries like Bagan in Myanmar.
In the afternoon, the Union Minister inspected the hotels operated by the Ministry in Bagan, and observed the progress of implementing Tuyin Villa Eco Farm. In the evening, the Union Minister hosted a dinner for representatives from People’s Republic of China, Cambodia, Myanmar and Thailand who attended the Seminar on Making Tourism More Sustainable in Cultural Heritage Destinations in the Post Pandemic.
