A Myanmar delegation led by Union Minister for Natural Resources and Environmental Conservation U Khin Maung Yi arrived back in Yangon on Friday evening after attending the 18th ASEAN Plus Three Environment Ministers Meeting, ASEAN-Japan Ministerial Dialogue on Environment and ASEAN-US Ministerial Dialogue on Environment and Climate in Laos.
The 18th ASEAN Plus Three Environment Ministers Meeting was held on 24th August and Minister for Natural Resources and Environmental Conservation of Laos chaired the meeting. They discussed matters on cooperation for marine plastic pollution action plan of ASEAN and its three partner countries, and future plans.
The Union Minister pledged that Myanmar will participate in cooperative efforts for environmental issues together with ASEAN plus three countries. In the afternoon, the ASEAN-Japan Ministerial Dialogue on Environment and Climate Change was held and the Ministers for Natural Resources and Environmental Conservation of Laos and Japan gave opening speeches.
During the meeting, they exchanged their views on collaborations of ASEAN member states and Japan in climate and environmental strategic process. Union Minister U Khin Maung Yi discussed that Myanmar will support and collaborate on ASEAN climate and Environmental Strategic process proposed by Japan to resolve the issues of biodiversity degradation and pollution.
In the evening, the ASEAN–US Ministerial Dialogue on Environment and Climate was held, and Union Minister U Khin Maung Yi discussed about the topics on Myanmar’s national strategy for climate change mitigation and adaptation (2021-2030) and the activities being carried out for promoting energy, power, utilization of forest land and other lands, and cultivating mixed crops, and cooperative efforts for combating climate change and environmental conservations.
The meeting adopted the action plans to promote the regional and national climate change mitigation targets, innovation for a low-carbon emission in future, and funding for environmental and biodiversity conservation efforts.
