Regional Meeting: Myanmar delegation attends the 12th AMMDM

The 12th ASEAN Ministerial Meeting on Disaster Management- 12th AMMDM and related meetings are being held in Brunei from 23rd to 25th October. Myanmar delegation led by Union Minister for Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement Dr. Soe Win attended the meetings in Bandar Seri Begawan.

On the 23rd, the delegation made a preliminary discussion with the officials from the ASEAN Secretariat and attended the dinner hosted by the Brunei Minister for Home Affairs and Chairman of the ASEAN Ministerial Meeting on Disaster Management.

On the 24th, the Union Minister attended the ASEAN Day Celebration and the first session of International Day for Disaster Risk Reduction as well as the 12th ASEAN Ministerial Meeting on Disaster Management and related meetings, held under the theme "Building Resilient ASEAN through Inclusive and Sustainable Disaster Recovery.

During the meeting, the Union Minister shared that Myanmar has recently experienced the severe impacts of the Typhoon Yagi, alongside the countries such as Laos, Thailand, and Viet Nam. He added that Myanmar Government is making collaboration with the relevant departments for emergency response operations.

Currently, the natural disaster management committee is undertaking efforts to restore affected areas to a better condition than their original state, providing necessary support for the reconstruction process under the guidance of the Head of State.

The Union Minister also expressed his apperication to the ASEAN and partner countries for contribution of humanitarian assistance for Myanmar. The participants from ASEAN member states also discussed about the natural diseaster management process. Subsequently, ASEAN Secretariat and Coordinating Centre for Humanitarian Assistance on Disaster Management (AHA Centre) presented an overview of the implementation status of the ASEAN Agreement on Disaster Management and Emergency Response for 2024, as well as the conditions regarding the utilization of the ASEAN Disaster Emergency Fund.

The delegations from ASEAN member states later paid a courtesy call to His Royal Highness Prince Haji Al-Muhtadee Billah of Brunei.
