Regional Cooperation: MOALI Union Minister tours in the Philippines

Union Minister for Agriculture, Livestock and Irrigation U Min Naung met with Chinese Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Rural Affairs on October 2, during his visit in the Philippines. They discussed cooperation in agriculture, including human resource development, high-quality seed production, research, land and irrigation management, as well as the construction of planned Biosafety Level-3 Animal Disease Diagnostic Laboratory in Nay Pyi Taw.

In the subsequent event, the Union Minister attended the honorary dinner hosted by the Philippine Department of Agriculture, together with ASEAN+3 Agriculture and Forestry Ministers. On October 3, they visited National Museum of Natural History in Manila.

The Secretary of Philippine Agriculture Department noted that forest cover fell from 70% in 1900 to 12.8% in 2010 and proposed planting one billion trees across ASEAN to combat deforestation. In the evening, the Union Minister visited the 30th Agri-Link, 24th Food-Link, and 19th Aqua-Link exhibitions at the World Trade Center, along with the Agriculture and Forestry Ministers from ASEAN+3 countries.
