


Union Minister for Immigration and Population, U Myint Kyaing, met with Ms. Noriko Takagi, the Resident Representative of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) in Myanmar, and her delegation at the reception hall of the Union Minister in Nay Pyi Taw on December 5.
Present at the meeting alongside Union Minister U Myint Kyaing were Deputy Ministers U Htay Hlaing and Dr. Myo Thant, Permanent Secretary, Director General of the Department of Immigration and officials.
Discussions focused on the effective implementation of the tasks under the tripartite Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) framework between the Ministry, UNDP, and UNHCR for the repatriation process of displaced persons from Rakhine State, plans to extend the MoU’s validity period and the tripartite agreement for signing its renewal, measures to expedite and improve verification processes for individuals’ residency documentation within the repatriation process, the Ministry’s operational needs, and potential areas of support from UNHCR.
They also discussed visa procedures for UNHCR’s foreign staff, travel and residency arrangements for regional personnel, and continued collaboration between the Ministry and UNDP-UNHCR on repatriation activities. The meeting concluded with a frank and open exchange of views on these issues, reinforcing the commitment to ongoing cooperation in repatriation and related processes.
