Receiving UNHCR delegation: MoIP UM received regional director of UNHCR

U Myint Kyaing met with Ms. Hai Kyung Jun, Director of the Asia-Pacific Regional Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), and members at the Ministry in Naypyidaw on 3rd October.

During the meeting, both sides cordially discussed the issues regarding with the ongoing implementation of activities under the tripartite Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) framework between the Ministry, UNDP, and UNHCR for the repatriation process of displaced persons from Rakhine State, possibility of extending MoU’s term and continuing collaboration., coordination with the relevant departments regarding visa issues for foreign UNHCR staff and customs clearance processes for imported goods in accordance with the procedures, support for the travel and residency needs of locally recruited employees in Buthidaung and Maungdaw areas and the opportunity to raise any necessary issues in advance, preparations to ensure that humanitarian aid and assistance can be provided effectively in line with the increasing stability and peace in Rakhine State, the ongoing cooperation between the Ministry and UNDP-UNHCR and the potential for continuing collaboration on these efforts.
