




The Union Minister for Hotels and Tourism, Dr. Thet Thet Khine, met with Mr. Shi Zhongjun, the Secretary General of the ASEAN-China Center (ACC), and his delegation at the Sedona Hotel in Yangon on the evening of December 8, 2024, prior to attending the opening ceremony of the 5th National Sports Festival.
During the meeting, the Union Minister expressed gratitude for responding to the invitation to attend the opening ceremony of the National Sports Festival and mentioned that the Ministry is actively promoting tourist regions and attractions to encourage Chinese tourists to visit the country, the Ministry has been offering Chinese language courses nationwide to provide better services to Chinese visitors and is also inviting Chinese investment in hotel and tourism sector in the country,the Ministry, together with the ASEAN-China Center, aims to strengthen cooperation between the two countries to boost the travel industry.
In response, Mr. Shi Zhongjun thanked the Union Minister for the invitation to the opening ceremony and noted the negative impact of fake news and misinformation on the arrival of foreign visitors, which has affected the development of the tourism industry in Myanmar. He assured that the ASEAN-China Center would continue to work closely with the Ministry to enhance tourism cooperation between Myanmar and China.
The Union Minister and Mr. Shi Zhongjun held open and constructive discussions. Later, Dr. the Union Minister hosted a dinner for Mr. Shi Zhongjun and his delegation.
On the morning of December 9, 2024, Union Minister for Hotels and Tourism left for Hoi An, Vietnam, to attend the First Rural Tourism Development Conference, which will be held from December 10 to 11, 2024. The conference is organized by the United Nations Tourism and the Ministry of Culture, Sports, and Tourism of Vietnam. The Union Minister was send off by the officials of the Ministry at the Yangon International Airport.
The purpose of the conference is to discuss the importance of tourism in rural development and to promote cooperation between national and regional governments, as well as international organizations, in the tourism sector. The conference will take place for two days, from December 10 to 11, 2024.
