Archaeologists excavating at Trajan's Forum have uncovered priceless artefacts dating from the times of Imperial Rome. Some of the remarkable discoveries were presented in the Italian capital for the first time on Friday.
Among the finds are two well-preserved marble heads, one believed to be from a statue of the god Dionysus and the other from a statue of Emperor Augustus.
At a news conference held at the Trajan Markets, part of Trajan's Forum, officials said it was amazing to find the pieces in such good quality.
They explained that from the Middle Ages, sculptures and friezes were often demolished and the stone or marble used as building materials.
The discovered artefacts will be going on display at the Museum of Imperial Forums. The head of Dionysus was found on 24 May, 2019, and the head of Augustus a few months later, on 27 September.
