Rare Documents: Three-Day Exhibition At The National Library Of Myanmar

A three-day exhibition on “Rare Documents” began on Thursday at the National Library of Myanmar in Yangon.

Organized by the Department of Historical Research and National Library under the Ministry of Religious Affairs and Culture, the exhibition was attended by the Director General and responsible officials from the Department, teachers from the Ministry of Education, students, researchers and enthusiasts.

Director General, Historical Research and National Library Dept.,  Aung Myint said “We've arranged to open the New National Library of Myanmar in the first week of coming April. So, this event is pre- opening ceremony and an introduction of the National Library of Myanmar to the public. The event aims to know rare and valuable manuscripts, documents and others to those coming to the exhibition. Our libraries are facilitating with internet access for the readers to be able to read e-books to promote reading habit.”

Variety of rare documents such as old treatises, Myanmar literature, Myanmar historical records, laws, history of ancient pagodas, inscriptions, ancient photos, Myanmar traditional costumes and many others are being showcased at the exhibition.

Director General (Rtd.), Department of Archaeology, National Museum and Library, Dr. San Win said “As this is the National Library of Myanmar, there are many archives and documents related with libraries. The documents are concerned with culture, social, political and educational categories. Also there are many ancient inscriptions and manuscripts and microfilms, etc. All visitors and enthusiasts can get many benefits from the event.”

Not only local but also foreign visitors joined to the exhibition which will be run till the 11th of this month.

Visitor from Japan, Akiyama said "...Today I visited this National Library in order to find the some way to learn about the history, Burmese history, and also it is related with Japan. I'm so happy because I'd like to learn about this more and more.."

Along with the exhibition, the research paper reading session with the title of "New Views, Fresh Finds" will also be held on Friday.
