Ramathibodi Hospital in Bangkok reported that all patients were safe following a fire on Tuesday night, but one staff member sustained injuries from smoke inhalation and is being treated in the ICU.
The fire originated on the second floor of the main building, in the radiology department’s office and film storage area, near the blood bank and pathology lab.
All patients were safely evacuated and relocated to other buildings within the hospital complex. Forensic investigators believe the fire was caused by an electrical short circuit in the ceiling, likely due to aging and modified wiring. The hospital expects to resume regular ward within a week, excluding the fire-affected areas.
