Rakhine State Situation: Tatmadaw Columns, AA Group Exchange Fire

AA Group attacked Tatmadaw columns conducting security operations in Buthidaung Township area of Rakhine State on Sunday evening. The Tatmadaw columns and the Group exchanged fire for about 30 minutes. The AA Group retreated to the southeast - the Tatmadaw columns seized 5 landmines and 10 bags of fertilizer used for mine planting.

Also on Sunday night, two landmines planted by the AA Group exploded near the Maungtaw- Angumaw Road in Kaing Gyi Village of Maungtaw Township. Acting on tip-off from the locals, security forces arrested a member of the AA Group named Kyaw Thein in Mawyawady Village in connection with the landmine explosion.

Since January 2019, the AA Group has planted 41 landmines on the roads in Rakhine State - Tatmadaw columns are conducting security and landmine clearing operations, according to the Office of the Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services.
