Raising Awareness : Public consultations on Myitsone Hydropower Project

Public consultation meetings on the Ayeyawady Myitsone–Upper Ayeyawady Basin Hydropower Project were held in Myitkyina on Friday, to provide local residents with technical information and raise public awareness about the project.

The discussions, organized by the Information and Public Relations Department and the Kachin State Local Support and Cooperation Committee, took place in Lekone and Kyun Pin Thar wards. Committee members and technical experts explained the project's engineering and geological aspects, the importance of hydropower for national development, and the reasons for selecting the Myitsone site.

Residents raised questions about the project's benefits, employment opportunities, safety, environmental concerns, and local development. Officials responded to the questions and discussed potential socio-economic benefits and community interests.
