Rains cause flooding, traffic chaos in Karachi

Heavy monsoon rains submerged roads in areas of Pakistan's southern port city of Karachi on Sunday. Many blamed local authorities for not taking steps to drain the water from the roads.

Since mid-June, monsoon rains in Pakistan have swollen rivers and damaged highways and bridges, disrupting traffic. Almost 9,000 homes have been fully destroyed or partially damaged. As of Saturday the death toll from more than five weeks of monsoon rains and flash flooding across the country reached 304.
