Quality Seeds: Sample Paddy Field For Extracting Seeds Demonstrated

The Department of Agriculture under the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Irrigation is implementing for extraction and distribution of quality seeds for different crops not only by the department but also with the involvement of farmers themselves.

Growing of sample plantations for quality seeds have also been demonstrated by mean of farmer participatory approach.

On Monday, a demonstration on planting of sample paddy field for extracting quality seeds at LaungKyant Village in Mong Lway Village-tract of Mong Yang Township in KengTung District of eastern Shan State.

Head, Department of Agriculture (KengTung District), Nyein Tun said “Today activity is demonstration for extracting paddy seeds. In this way, the farmers will be skillful in extracting paddy seeds. They will also come to understand the facts to be carried out in paddy seeds extracting and practice it. Moreover, the quality paddy seeds could also be distributed to the farmers in the area, and they will get a chance to grow quality paddy strain every year which could increase their incomes.”

The Department of Agriculture also plans to distribute quality paddy strains to the farmers in Mong Yang and nearby areas during the COVID-19 period as part of COVID-19 Economic Relief Plan (CERP).
