Quake Impact in Inle Lake: Chief Minister tours the affected areas in Inle Lake

Due to the powerful 7.7 magnitude earthquake, many residential and religious buildings in the villages around Inle Lake were collapsed.

On March 29th, Shan State Chief Minister U Aung Aung together with officials visited the village in Nyaung Shwe Township of Kalaw District to assess the damages. More than 640 houses collapsed in Kaylar Village, with reported casualties. The Landmark of Inle Lake, Phaungdawoo Pagoda was also damaged.

Due to the earthquake, the water level around the pagoda have been decreased for about three feet. The quake also caused cracks on the pagoda platform and walls of the religious buildings. In Shan State, 90 pagodas, 48 religious edifices, 126 brick fences, 34 departmental buildings, 3 staff housings and 8 other buildings, 1,797 collapsed houses, 249 partial damages, 1 guesthouses, 12 hotels, 2 bridges, power lines and four transformers were damaged, according to the statics as March 29th afternoon.

In addition, 50 people were reported death with 75 injured. The affected communities were temporarily accommodated at Tarlay Basic Education High School. The Chief Minister met with the affected local communities and provided assistance for basic needs.
