Pyongyang celebrates New Year with fireworks, performances

Tens of thousands of people gathered at Kim Il Sung Square on Monday night to watch performances and count down to the New Year in Pyongyang, capital city of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea.

Artists and teachers from renowned art troupes performed on stage as part of the New Year's celebrations. Most of the attendees were young people and students. Some parents also accompanied their children to watch the performances and fireworks.

The crowd cheered when fireworks lit up the night sky. The show ended with all the performers singing "Ardent Desire" together on stage.
