Russian President Vladimir Putin's spokesman on Friday said the joint nuclear drills with Belarus scheduled on Saturday shouldn't be seen as a move to escalate tensions.

Dmitry Peskov said military drills happen on a "regular basis", and nuclear drills are usually preceded by a "flurry of notifications" sent to different countries via diplomatic channels. Putin will watch the drills from a situation room, Peskov said, but didn't specify where exactly.
