President Vladimir Putin said on Thursday that Russia and Egypt could discuss plans to create a grain and energy hub in Egypt at a meeting with Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty in Moscow. During the meeting, Putin said he had ordered the Russian government to work with Egypt on issues around supplying food, mainly grain.

He also thanked Egyptian government for buying its wheat as Egypt is the biggest buyer of Russian wheat. Egypt plays an increasingly important role in handling Russian commodities and could serve as a logistics and storage point for supplies heading to Africa and the Middle East.
