Publishing Industry: 3 Types Of Awards Presented To Publisher, Publishing Houses

Myanmar Publishers and Booksellers Association presented lifelong publisher award, bestseller publishing house award and best publishing house award at News and Periodical Enterprise in Yangon on Wednesday. Established in 2012, the Association started presenting such awards in 2013 and this is the 7th edition. Awards are presented after scrutinizing the works by the publishers and publishing houses across the country.  

Chairperson, Myanmar Publishers and Booksellers Association, Nan Kalayar Win said “We did a careful scrutinization for these awards. Today, the publishing industry has changed - e-book is popular among the readers – there are digital contents and sales online. Also, the distribution platform has changed so we need to catch up international standard.”

The association presented 500,000 kyats and certificate of honor to lifelong publisher award winner and 300,000 kyats each and certificates of honor to the bestseller publishing house award winner and the best publishing house award winner.

Bestseller Publishing House Award, Seikku Cho Cho Publishing House, Mandalay, Than Than Myaing  said “I am very pleased to have received the award. Our publishing house sells different types of books including fiction, nonfiction and political books. We give our best services to our customers.”

Best Publishing House Award Winner, Hnint Kala Myar Publishing House, Moe Way said “We won the award as we published a poetry book by Saya Thukamein Hlaing and I am very pleased. Our Publishing House was established 20 years ago.” 

This is to acknowledge the publishers and publishing houses and also to promote the publishing industry in Myanmar, Vice Chairman of the Myanmar Publishers and Booksellers Association said.

Vice Chairman, Myanmar Publishers and Booksellers Association, Myint Tun  said “Our association conducts many activities like seminar, workshop, literature and book fairs in cooperation with the Ministry of Information.  We have plans to launch training program with the help of foreign experts. We will try hard for the development of the industry.”

It’s learnt that Myanmar Publishers and Booksellers Association has plans to present more different types of awards.
