Public Recreation: Flower Festival kicked off in Pyin Oo Lwin

17th Flower Festival kicked off at National Kandawgyi Gardens in Pyin Oo Lwin on December 14. Mandalay Regional Ministers and officials attended the festival which is held to commemorate the Centennial Anniversary of National Kandawgyi Gardens.

During the ceremony, the vocalists and cultural troupes staged the performance with various songs and entertainment. In addition, awards were presented to the winners of essay, painting and poem reading competitions to mark the Centennial Anniversary of the Gardens and 17th Edition of Flower Festival.

The National Kandawgyi Gardens was opened for the public with the aims of providing recreation for domestic and foreign visitors, understanding and appreciating the value and importance of forests and natural environment by the public. It also serves as a venue for Botanists, flower enthusiasts, and researchers to conduct their research processes.

The gardens also preserves the endangered plants and flower species, becomes a landmark destination, promotes eco-tourism and gains internationally recognition, enhancing the country’s prestige. The Flower Festival is set to run from 14 December 2024 to 12 January 2025.
