The Ministry of Electricity and Energy is working to provide electricity to the public reliably. However, due to various challenges, some planned power projects could not be completed, so only about 70% of electricity demand is currently being met.
Electricity use is increasing by about 15% every year, causing a gap between supply and demand. About 8% of generated electricity is lost due to internal use in power plants and transmission losses in the grid.
The ministry also stated that some power plants, substations, and transmission lines have been damaged and cannot be fully used, which puts extra pressure on the remaining system. Repair work is being carried out by ministry staff with support from security forces and local communities.
However, they report facing dangerous conditions during repair work, including attacks and landmines, which have caused deaths and injuries among workers. Despite these difficulties, the ministry continues to repair and improve the system and still manages to increase electricity distribution, even when water levels in reservoirs are very low. The public is asked to cooperate, protect infrastructure, and follow official announcements from the ministry.
