An awareness raising seminar on prevention measures for dengue fever was held at Nay Pyi Taw Public Health Department on Friday.

Dengue cases are mostly happened in children under 15 years of age. But there are also increased cases in those of above 15. Previously, dengue fever happened only in rainy season. Nowadays, the case has been occured throughout the year.

The seminar aims to have more public participation in dengue prevention measures.

Deputy Head, Public Health Department, Dr. Myo Su Kyi said “We are carrying out the prevention measures for dengue fever by means of two methods. The first one is prevention measures in larvae stage. The next one is spraying mosquito repellent. If there found out the dengue case, we carry out spraying mosquito repellent within 300 meter area of the patient. We also check whether other cases of fever around the area. We are carrying out these tasks with the cooperation of local residents and concerned officials from different levels.”

The case of dengue fever have been increased in Myanmar. Low interest of public in dengue prevention measures is one of the reasons of increased dengue cases, the official said.

Deputy Head, Public Health Department, Dr. Myo Su Kyi said “In these days, the dengue cases are on the increase, and it also spreads to rural areas. There is also weakness of public cooperation in dengue prevention measures. If we can achieve more interest from the public, the case of dengue outbreak will be reduce. So, we really want to urge the participation of public in these activities.”

In 2018, more than 20,000 dengue cases happened with 112 death.

In Nay Pyi Taw Council Area, 298 people were suffered from dengue fever last year and one of them died. As of May this year, 52 cases of dengue fever occured and no fatality reported.
