The Ministry of Immigration and Population released a public announcement on January 1, 2026. In the announcement, it’s stated that the Ministry of Immigration and Population is actively implementing plans to ensure every citizen possesses at least one form of National Registration Card (NRC) and that every eligible citizen can present such a card to vote in the ongoing Multi-Party Democracy General Election.

Furthermore, to ensure that eligible voters do not lose their right to vote due to damaged or lost citizenship scrutiny cards during this election period, Immigration and Population offices in all townships are specially operating without closing days.

These offices are processing applications for replacement of damaged or lost citizenship cards in accordance with the law, as efficiently as possible. Therefore, eligible voters whose citizenship scrutiny cards are damaged or lost are urged to contact their respective township Immigration and Population offices.

However, the public is hereby warned that if individuals apply for and possess more than one citizenship card, falsely citing damage or loss, while their original card is neither damaged nor lost, they will face effective legal action in accordance with the law.
