Provisions for Rakhine State: Cash assistance for IDPs and vulnerable groups in Sittwe

The Department of Social Welfare hosted a ceremony to provide cash assistance for internally displaced persons (IDPs) and vulnerable groups in urban areas at KhineThazin Hall in Sittwe.

The event was attended by Rakhine State Chief Minister U Htein Lin and wife, along with relevant officials and invited guests. At the ceremony, cash assistance were provided to vulnerable groups in Sittwe, including the elderly of age 75 and above, people with disabilities (PWDs), pregnant women, children under 5 and IDPs in urban areas.

The provision is part of the Myanmar National Social Protection Strategic Plan 2014. During the event, the Chief Minister emphasized the healthcare provision to pregnant women and children in temporary camps, food distribution and monthly healthcare services to pensioners under the state government's guidance.

Next, the Chief Minister and wife and relevant officials presented cash assistance to displaced persons, the elderly, the PWDs, pregnant women and children under 5 respectively.

The Chief Minister and party later proceeded to the Sittwe Multi-Purpose Port and inspected the arrival of over 1,600 tons of basic foodstuff and consumer goods, provided by the National Disaster Management Committee under the supervision of Rakhine State and Yangon Region Governments. The Chief Minister and party inspected the unloading process of goods and instructed for orderly handling, quick market distribution, damage prevention and safe management.
