









In commemoration of Myanmar Literati Day, respect-paying ceremony to honour veteran literati was held at the City Hall in Yangon on 28th December.
Union Minister for Information U Maung Maung Ohn, region social affairs minister, chairman and members of Myanmar Writers’ Association and the invited guests attended the ceremony.
At the ceremony, the Union Minister donated 10 million kyat cash assistance and over 12.6 million kyat worth of clothing contributed by Chairman of the State Administration Council Prime Minister Senior General Min Aung Hlaing.
It was followed by donating of cash assistance contributed by the Ministry of Information, Yangon Region Government, Yangon City Development Committee, Union Solidarity and Development Party Headquarter and Yangon Region Union Solidarity and Development Party. Chairman of the Myanmar Writers’ Association accepted the donations and presented honorary certificates in return.
In his speech, the Union Minister highlighted the admiration of the Prime Minister towards literature and his contributions to the development of Myanmar literature, honoring the excellent literati.
The Union Minister expressed his appreciations for the exerted efforts of the Myanmar Writers’ Association to organize the ceremony annually. He also encouraged the relevant officials to continue preserve the good tradition promoting Myanmar Literature. It was followed by a speech of the Chairman of Myanmar Writers’ Association.
Next, the Union Minister and attendees paid respect to the veteran literati and donated cash assistance. On behalf of the veteran literati, Author Professor Dr. Mya Thein Han gave words of guidance. Then, the Union Minister and party warmly greeted the veteran literati.
In the afternoon, the Union Minister attended a ceremony to present cash award and honorary gifts to the members of evaluation committees on National Literary Award and Sarpay Beikman Manuscript Award at the Printing and Publishing Department in Botahtaung Township.
In his opening speech, the Union Minister stressed on elimination of poisonous literature and publications and promoting Myanmar literature through modern technologies and called for the concerted efforts of the relevant individuals to nurture the reading habit of the youths. It was followed by presenting cash awards and honorary gifts to the evaluation committee members and sector wise discussions on development of Myanmar literature.
