4,500 books of Public Science Volumes 1, 2, and 3 were donated to libraries across Myanmar as well as Military Commands, Battalions, and Regiments by the family of Chairman of the State Administration Council Prime Minister Senior General Min Aung Hlaing.

The donation ceremony took place at the National Library in Nay Pyi Taw on Wednesday, which commenced by screening of a video clip promoting literature.

In his speech, the Prime Minister discussed how the donated books contain knowledge to help youths sharpen their skills. Although these books were first published over 60 years ago, they provide invaluable knowledge.

The Prime Minister stressed the need to encourage people to nurture a reading habit by creating good reading environments. He called for the cooperation of all concerned personnel in the long-term development of libraries in schools and communities.

The Prime Minister and his family donated 4,500 books of Public Science Volumes 1, 2, and 3, with 1,500 for each volume. 3,000 of them will go to libraries across Myanmar through the Myanmar Library Foundation, and 1,500 will go to the libraries of Military Commands, Battalions, and Regiments.

The Public Science Volumes were published by the Myanmar Translation Society (Sarpay Beikman) from 1955 to 1958 and include research works on various fields that could benefit society.

The Ministry of Information has reprinted the second edition of Public Science Volumes, and Volumes 1, 2, and 3 have already been published. Plans are underway to publish the remaining Volumes 4 and 5. During the ceremony, the Ministry of Information also donated 5,500 fiction and non-fiction books.

Currently, there are 410 district and township level libraries under the Ministry of Information, in addition to over 3,500 libraries operated by private organizations, individuals, and local communities.
