Thai traditional Songkran Festival took place at the Residence of Thai Ambassador to Myanmar on Wednesday. The celebration was held to commemorate the 75th anniversary diplomatic relations between Myanmar and Thailand.
The congregation led by Union Minister for Foreign Affairs U Than Swe took Five Precepts from the Patron Sayadaw of Khaymar Rama Monastery. They also listened to the sermon delivered by the members of the Sangha.
It was followed by donation of offertories to the Sayadaw and members of the Sangha. After sharing the merits, day meal was offered to the members of the Sangha. The Union Minister and party later poured water to the Buddha image and donated coins.
They also toured round the Thai traditional foods and display of sand stupa. They also enjoyed the demonstration of playing Sepak Takraw. Then, the Songkran festival commenced with the greetings, extended by Thai Ambassador to Myanmar Mr. MongkolVisitstump. Then, the Union Minister, Deputy Miniter for Religious Affairs and Culture Daw Nu Mra Zan, the Ambassadors of Thailand, China and Cambodia and officials enjoyed the Thai traditional Songkran festival.
They also enjoyed the cultural performances, presented by Thai cultural troupe, Myanmar students from Yangon University of Foreign Languages and Thai vocalists. Thai traditional Songkran festival also aims to promote cooperation in social, economic and cultural relations between Myanmar and Thailand. It also showcased the friendly relations between the two countries.
