Promoting Education and Empowerment: Taninthayi Region Basic Literacy Program

The Taninthayi Region Supervisory Committee on Basic Literacy Program held its meeting in Dawei on Wednesday. Chairman of the Supervisory Committee, Chief Minister U MyatKo, urged all to provide necessary assistance for the smooth implementation of the work.

The program will be jointly carried out by the Ministry of Education and the Regional Government. There are over 35,000 illiterate individuals in the region, with 3,600 of them targeted to receive learning opportunities through the program.

240 instructors will provide teaching services at 240 designated locations under the supervision of 24 supervisors. The basic literacy program will be conducted in 9 townships of the Taninthayi Region. A total of 9 teachers attended the central-level instructor training, which was conducted in Nay Pyi Taw.

They shared their knowledge with 264 trainees at the regional-level multiplier course, who will in turn provide teaching services at the literacy programs in wards and villages. The program is set to be implemented for 40 days, from April 6th to May 15th.
