The Central Bank of Myanmar released a press, on 30th September, regarding with the disinformation on demonetization of legal currencies spreading on the social media pages and websites. The full text of the press release stated that the statements circulating on social media pages and websites that the 50 kyat (fifty kyat) and 100 kyat (one hundred kyat) notes have been demonetized from official currency are false and disinformation.
According to Article 36 (e) of the Constitution (2008) of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar, it has been clearly stated that "the Union shall not demonetize the currency legally in circulation". The Central Bank of Myanmar is collaborating with the law enforcement organizations to identify and take action against those who spread false information to harm the public's interests in accordance with the law and impose effective and deterrent punishments.
