The official campaign period for next month's presidential election has kicked off in South Korea. South Korea is holding its presidential election on 3rd June.

The race is expected to be a showdown between the candidate of the main opposition Democratic Party, Lee Jae-myung, and former labor minister Kim Moon-soo of the ruling People Power Party.

Lee launched his campaign in central Seoul on Monday and he pledged to restore the crumbling democracy and revive the economy. Meanwhile, Kim visited a market in Seoul, where he campaigned on his intention to revitalize the country's economy. The official campaign period lasts for 22 days until June 2, the day before voting.
