Presidential candidates step up election campaign ahead of runoff

The final two Ecuadorian presidential candidates Daniel Noboa and Luisa Gonzalez enter the final week in their political campaigns ahead to the runoff of the presidential elections scheduled for October 15. They have faced each other in the last debate before the run-off election.

Sunday night’s debate gave both candidates a platform to address long-simmering issues in the country, like rising rates of violent crime and the struggling economy. The victor in the upcoming election will only serve for the remainder of Ecuadorean President Lasso’s time in office, until 2025.
