President of Maldives Solih submits candidacy form

President of the Republic of Maldives Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has submitted his candidacy form to contest in the upcoming presidential election. His Election Agent and Campaign Manager handed over his candidacy form to the President of the Elections Commission of the Maldives (ECM). He has also appointed Majority Leader of the Parliament Mohamed Aslam as his running mate.

Aslam, the Leader of the Parliamentary Group (PG) of the Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) is one of the most senior members of Parliament who is also a long-serving member of the main ruling party. ECM will close the opportunity to submit forms on 7th August and will assign the ballot numbers of the candidates on 9th August. The election is scheduled to be held on 9th September and a possible second round will be held on 30th September.
