President Hernández congratulates Castro on her win

Honduran President Juan Orlando Hernández congratulated opposition candidate Xiomara Castro de Zelaya on Wednesday night for her electoral victory although she has not yet to be officially declared the winner.

With 59.22% of the count completed, Castro had 52.25% of the votes and the official candidate of the National Party, Nasry Asfura, had 34.95% of the votes, according to the latest data from the CNE.

Honduran President acknowledged the work of the National Electoral Council, the National Registry of Persons and the Armed Forces, and expressed his government's commitment to a peaceful and democratic transition. The National Electoral Council has 30 days to declare the official winner of the elections.
