President-elect Milei vows 'reconstruction of Argentina'

Argentina's president-elect Javier Milei on Sunday vowed an end to the country's decades of economic decline. "Today begins the reconstruction of Argentina. Today begins the end of Argentina's decline.

Today ends the impoverishing model of the omnipresent state, which only benefits some while the majority suffers," Milei said at his party headquarters in Buenos Aires after winning presidential election.

Milei pulled off a massive upset with a resounding win in Argentina's presidential election, plunging the country into uncertainty in the midst of a crippling economic crisis.

He had won with 55.7 percent of the vote to 44 percent scored by his rival, the Economy Minister Sergio Massa.
