






A ceremony on flood drill 2023 to carry out search and rescue works effectively in case of natural disaster in a timely manner was held in Mawlamyine, Mon State on 31st May.
It was attended by the Mon State Chief Minister U AungKyiThein, the Commander of Southwest Command, officials and social organizations. First, the State Chief Minister and members of the State Government observed the flood drill exercises including evacuating the people who can face the floods, providing medical treatment and transferring the injured persons to hospital.
At the event, the State Chief Minister said the drill is a process to conduct preparedness measures for natural disasters and mitigate loss and damages. According to 2021 Global Climate Risk Index, Puerto Rico, Myanmar and Hati were regarded as the most disaster risk countries.
Myanmar is one of the disaster-prone countries in Asia and over 90% of disasters are related to flood. As Myanmar is rich in many rivers and creeks, flood flash occurs in June, July and August. It is necessary to conduct preparatory measures for the natural disaster to reduce damages and losses. Later, the Chief Minister presented cash awards to the members who took part in the drill.
