Preparations are under way to restart schooling in Grindavík of Iceland next autumn. Grindavík has been badly affected by a series of volcanic eruptions, and earthquakes, since the geological reawakening of the Reykjanes peninsula in southwest Iceland over the last three years.

New businesses are opening, and although the town will never be the same, the chair of the municipal council said there is great determination among residents. The government has approved funding for what is known as ‘construction plan two’, which is scheduled to span three years. The council is also preparing to draft a budget for the next electoral term.
