Preparations Underway: Meeting for Buddha Day Ceremony in Nay Pyi Taw

The Board of Patrons and Leading Committee on organizing the Buddha Day ceremony held a meeting on Thursday afternoon.

In this meeting at the Ministry of Religious Affairs and Culture, Vice Chairman of the State Administration Council Deputy Prime Minister Vice Senior General Soe Win said that on the full moon day of the month of Kason, alms and offertories donation to members of the Sangha, paper reading session, pouring water at the Bo Tree, procession with candles and DhammaThabin ceremonies will be held in the compound of Uppatasanti Pagoda in Nay Pyi Taw.

And, he stressed thatin terms of security, the places and related places where ceremonies will be held must be properly managed from all angles with security awareness.

And, attendees made discussions on ongoing works plans for the ceremonies on the full moon day of Kason. Buddha Day is traditionally observed by Buddhists. It commemorates the birth, enlightenment and death of the Lord Gautama Buddha.

It’s learnt that on the 13th of December 1999 the United Nations General Assembly adopted resolution 54/115, entitled 'International recognition of the Day of Vesak at United Nations Headquarters and other United Nations offices'.The name Vesak is for the lunar month of Vaisakha which is considered the month of the Lord Buddha's birth.
