Preparations Underway: To Mark Int’l Day Against Drug Abuse And Illicit Trafficking

Preparations are underway in Yangon to mark the International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking. The 3rd coordination meeting took place on Tuesday to organize the awarding ceremony for painting, cartoon, poster and computerized painting competitions, and also to burn seized narcotic drugs. To raise awareness about dangers of narcotic drugs among the public especially young people, the Yangon Region Police Force organizes such competitions and activities annually.

Police Major, Yangon Region Police Force, Hla Wai said “Over 800 primary, middle and High school students participated in painting, cartoon, poster and computerized painting competitions held on the 2nd and 3rd of June. 36 first, second and third prizes and 57 special prizes will be awarded. Prize awarding ceremony will be held on the 26th of June which is the international day against drug abuse and illicit trafficking. Seized narcotic drugs will also be burned in Yangon, Mandalay and Taunggyi on the day.”

It is also learnt that narcotic drugs which were seized by 9 anti-narcotic drug squads will be burned on the 26th of June at Hlaingthaya Township of Yangon Region.
