Union Minister for Electricity and Energy U Ko Ko Lwin on Saturday inspected electricity-related operations in Nay Pyi Taw Union Territory to improve power supply and reduce electricity losses.

The Union Minister visited the electricity distribution department, meter testing section, and control centers monitoring Digital Smart Meters in Dekkhinathiri Township. It is learnt that around 15.6 percent of daily electricity distribution, which is equal to about 10.7 million units, is currently lost, causing daily losses of more than 2.75 billion kyats.

To reduce power losses and prevent illegal electricity use, the ministry is replacing old and inefficient meters and speeding up the installation of new Digital Smart Meters. During the visit, the Union Minister inspected meter testing, security sealing processes, the AMI Control Center, and the National Control Center, which monitor electricity usage and power systems in real time.
