Portuguese PM arrives in Beijing for official visit

Portuguese Prime Minister Luis Montenegro arrived in Beijing on Monday for an official visit to China at the invitation of Chinese Premier Li Qiang. It is Montenegro’s first visit to China, and he will stay through Wednesday.

During the visit, he is scheduled to meet with President Xi Jinping, hold talks with Premier Li, and chairman of the National People’s Congress (NPC) Standing Committee Zhao Leji, with discussions expected to focus on strengthening bilateral ties.

The visit carries symbolic and forward‑looking significance. This year marks the 20th anniversary of the China–Portugal comprehensive strategic partnership, seen by both sides as an opportunity to deepen mutual trust and expand cooperation under the Belt and Road Initiative.
