Pope Leo XIV has called for the immediate release of more than 300 hostages abducted from a Catholic school in Nigeria, in one of the country’s largest mass kidnappings. The hostages included priests, students, and other members of the Catholic community. Reports indicate similar abductions have occurred in Cameroon.

The Pope expressed concern for the victims and their families, urging authorities to take prompt action to secure their release. International observers noted that coordinated action was needed to curb armed groups.  Security forces in Nigeria continue to investigate the incident and monitor related threats. The situation has drawn global attention due to the number of people involved and the severity of the attacks.
