Thirty-five thousand people, according to the Vatican gendarmerie, gathered in St. Peter's square to listen to Pope Francis’s Angelus prayer from his window. After the Angelus, the Pontiff reiterated his message for peace, saying that "only the change of hearts can open the road leading to peace."

He also spoke about the victims of the earthquake in Türkiye and Syria and those affected by this weekend's devastating tornado in Mississippi. Before saluting the crowd in St. Peter square, the Pope spotted a group of Peruvian flags in the square and took the occasion to renew his prayer for reconciliation and peace in Peru.
