Speaking after the recitation of the Angelus prayer on Saturday, Pope Leo turned his thoughts to the suffering of communities in the eastern part of the Democratic Republic of the Congo.

Due to insecurity and armed conflict, the population is facing great difficulties that many have been forced to seek refuge beyond the country’s borders, particularly in neighboring Burundi. The Pope also prayed for southern Africa such as South Africa, Mozambique, and Zimbabwe, where torrential rains and widespread flooding have claimed more than one hundred lives in recent days.
