Pope Leo XIV appoints Saint John Henry Newman as doctor of the church

Pope Leo XIV appointed Saint John Henry Newman as co-patron of education and doctor of the church on Saturday, a title given to saints in recognition of their contributions to theological research. The 19th century English cleric, known for his writings on faith, became a cardinal in 1879 after converting to Catholicism from the Church of England.
