Pope arrives to cheering crowds at DRC stadium

Pope Francis received a wildly enthusiastic welcome ahead of a meeting with youth in a stadium in Kinshasa, the capital of Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), Thursday. Sixty-five thousand people filled the stadium in the center of the Congolese capital, cheering, chanting and dancing.

Many of them said they were thrilled to have a Pope in their country after 38 years since the visit of Pope John Paul II in 1985. The Pope is on a six-day trip in Africa, spending the first three days in the Democratic Republic of the Congo before traveling to South Sudan.
