Voters in Portugal cast their ballots in a snap election called after Prime Minister Luis Montenegro lost a parliamentary vote of confidence in March. Montenegro, a 52-year-old lawyer and leader of the centre-right, is widely expected to win the election.

The confidence vote followed allegations of conflicts of interest related to Montenegro’s consulting firm, which he has denied. Despite projections favoring his victory, there is no certainty Montenegro will be able to form a stable government.
