Polls open in Dominican Republic's presidential election

On Sunday, voters in the Dominican Republic headed to the polls to elect the next president and members of parliament. Incumbent Luis Abinader is seeking a second consecutive four-year term in this election.

Up to eight million eligible voters will decide which candidate is best suited to address the humanitarian crisis in neighboring Haiti, combat government corruption, and address issues of inflation and inequality in the Caribbean's leading tourist destination.
